girl-in-bracesYou just finished your consultation with our East Orlando children’s orthodontist, Dr. Ross Taddeo, and he recommends that braces are necessary to improve your oral health. Hearing this evaluation, most people are unlikely to burst from their seats with excitement. In reality, the first thought that might cross your mind is “do braces hurt?” It is normal to feel a little anxious about getting braces, especially with so many overdramatized horror stories you might read on the Internet. Well, our dedicated team is here to help you put your mind at ease by providing you helpful information about braces to make your treatment a comfortable experience.

How Does Our East Orlando Braces Treatment Work?

We offer multiple variations of our braces treatment; however, the most popular form is our traditional metal braces procedure. It involves the use of brackets and archwires that are made of a stainless steel that helps shift teeth into their proper location. Dr. Taddeo will attach a metal bracket onto each individual tooth to lay the foundation for the treatment. Each bracket has a slot that allows the archwires to pass through to guide the tooth’s movement. The archwires will be thin and easily bendable at the start of the treatment, so only a gentle force will placed on your teeth. As the treatment progresses, the wires will become thicker in order to create a consistent force that repositions the teeth to where they are supposed to be. Lastly, an elastic tie will be placed over the wires and on the brackets to keep them in place. We offer various colors, so you can easily customize your braces to your liking.

Our Metal Braces Treatment Expectations

Once the braces are applied to your teeth, you may feel slight discomfort due to the pressure from the wires. We recommend that you take over-the-counter pain medication such as Advil or Tylenol to relieve yourself from the pain. Some people may feel the brackets dig into the inside of your mouth, so we will provide you with small strips of wax to keep the braces from rubbing against the tender areas.

When you come back for your appointment with Dr. Taddeo, you may feel pressure on your teeth after the each evaluation. Our East Orlando braces treatment works slowly to move your teeth into the proper alignment, so Dr. Taddeo will need to adjust the braces in order to maintain optimal and consistent movement.
