Tips For Maintaining Braces During The Holidays
Posted on 12/09/2016

The holiday season is here and that means an excess of sweets and treats everywhere you go. It is difficult to say “no” to homemade cookies, hot cocoa, or gingerbread houses, so it should come as no surprise that the holidays are not the best time for your oral health. At Dr. Ross Taddeo Orthodontics, we want you to enjoy the season without having to worry about cavities or broken metal wires. We want to provide you with educational material, so that you can make informed decisions about your oral health regardless of the occasion.

Here are some helpful tips for to maintain your braces during the holidays:

  • Fruit-saladAvoid sticky desserts: Sticky candies such as caramel can damage your brackets and wires. Also, these type of sweets can stay on or in between your teeth, which can increase the risk of tooth decay.
  • Substitute sweets with fresh fruits: Consider swapping those sweet desserts with a fresh fruit. Peaches or fresh strawberries are not only delicious, but also, they are much healthier for your overall health.
  • Brush and floss your teeth: Make sure to brush and floss your teeth after you indulge on sweets. Any sugar around your teeth will bring in harmful bacteria and increase plaque and tartar hidden between your teeth, so it is important to not forget this crucial step.
