Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign

Whether you’re considering Invisalign or are already in treatment, it’s important to know all you can about how Invisalign works. Please use this section to find answers to some of the most common questions about our East Orlando Invisalign treatment.

Q: How does Invisalign work?

A: Using advanced 3D imaging technology, Dr. Taddeo will create a unique treatment plan for you that he sends off to the makers of Invisalign so your aligners can be made. Once your custom-made aligners arrive at our office, we’ll ask you to come in to get them. We’ll tell you to wear the first set of aligners for about two weeks. Then you’ll switch to the next set and continue doing so until you’ve used all the aligners and your treatment is done.

Q: What is Invisalign Teen?

A: Invisalign Teen is the teenage version of regular Invisalign. It works the same way, but the aligners have special features. For instance, there are ‘eruption tabs’ built in to hold space for adult teeth that haven’t yet come in. There are also tiny blue dots on the aligners that fade as the aligners are worn. They’re there to remind the wearer that it’s time to switch aligners.

Q: How long will treatment take?

A: That depends on the severity of your case. However, the average case takes about 12 months. Dr. Taddeo will let you know how long you’ll be in treatment once he examines your mouth and develops your treatment plan.

Q: Is treatment uncomfortable?

A: It’s common to feel some discomfort for a few days at the start of treatment and when you switch to new aligners. This discomfort is typically described as pressure. It’s just a sign that Invisalign is working as it’s supposed to, by slowly moving your teeth.

Q: Can I take my aligners out at nighttime?

A: No. You must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day, including overnight while you’re asleep.

Q: What if I have school or family photos to take?

A: You can remove your aligners temporarily for your school or work photos as long as you put them right back in when done.

Q: Will my aligners slip out when I’m asleep?

A: That’s highly unlikely because your aligners will fit snugly over your teeth.

Q: Can I really eat anything I want?

A: Yes. You’re free to enjoy all your favorite foods because the aligners are designed to be taken out when eating. However, we suggest limiting the amount of sugary foods you consume so you can avoid tooth decay.

Q: Is there any special way I need to brush and floss my teeth?

A: No. When it’s time to brush and floss, just take your aligners out and get busy! Just be sure to do a great job brushing & flossing to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Q: How do I clean the aligners?

A: Cleaning your aligners is easy. Just brush them gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush and then rinse them off with cool water when done. You can also clean your aligners using the Invisalign Cleaning System that can be purchased online.
