Although most patients are probably overjoyed for this momentous event, some might be nervous or wondering what to expect when getting their braces off. Don’t worry, your local Orlando, FL orthodontic team will walk you through the entire process. Whether you will be finishing your Invisalign treatment or braces, we will make sure all of your questions are answered.

Braces Removal Procedure

To actually remove your braces, your Orlando, FL orthodontist will do the majority of the work. First, they will work with a pair of sanitary orthodontic pliers to gently remove the base of each bracket. The objective is to carefully break the bonding adhesive to remove the bracket from your tooth. Once all of the brackets are taken off individually, Dr. Ross Taddeo will remove the cement with a specific dental tool. The last step is a quick polish to ensure your tooth enamel is free of cement and ready for smiles.

The braces removal process is relatively easy and painless in our Orlando, FL office. The actual procedure shouldn’t hurt at all, however, you may experience some minor inflammation or irritation of the gums, but this will subside in a couple of days.

Post Braces Care

Now it’s time to take care of your new smile! Once your braces have been taken off, it’s important to keep up a regular oral hygiene routine with effective brushing and flossing, and wearing your retainer.

  • You should ensure that you are brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day to keep your teeth bacteria and dental plaque free.
  • If you had been wearing metal braces or ceramic braces, it’s essential to wear your retainer for the specified time. Your teeth are in the perfect position, your bite is aligned, and everything is straight - wearing your retainer will keep it this way.
  • If you had been wearing Invisalign, remember, your last set of clear aligners has now become your retainer. Please make sure to wear it for the specific timeframe set by your orthodontist.

Follow Up Appointments

Depending on your specific orthodontic plan and progress, your orthodontist may want to schedule one or more follow up appointments to ensure your teeth are in the desired position and stay there. Of course, if anything happens to your teeth or your retainer, never hesitate to call the orthodontic office of Dr. Ross Taddeo and schedule an appointment.
