Why are my teeth moving?Growth is obviously a natural part of life. From babies to kids, to teenage growth spurts, to entering adulthood, our bodies are ever changing with our bones shifting, getting thicker, and growing. A set of bones that are commonly seen by others is our teeth. Every time we smile, we let the world see how our adult teeth have come in and grown. Unfortunately, for some, the teeth will come in crowded, misaligned, and overall, not straight. But why does this happen? Dr. Taddeo can help you understand!

Why Aren’t My Teeth Naturally Straight?

If you’ve never had an oral or facial injury, you may wonder why your teeth won’t naturally grow into their appropriate place. The reason for this is because of your jaw structure. Genetics play a huge role in how your smile will ultimately look. If your jaw structure is too narrow, you’ll experience tooth crowding that can also lead to having a crossbite or an overbite. The size of your jaw can also cause a tooth to not have enough room to come out into its proper position because another tooth is already in its place; this is called an impacted tooth. Since the blocked tooth wants to come out, it will find another way around the tooth that’s already in place!

What Can I Do To Correct My Overcrowding Teeth’s Alignment?

Thankfully, we live in a day and age where we don’t have to come to terms and accept the curveball our genetics have thrown us. With the help of Dr. Taddeo, you can achieve the smile that we’ve always wanted! Two of the most popular corrective appliances are traditional metal braces and Invisalign. Both will help patients realize their ideal smile in a relatively similar process, save a few differences.

Traditional braces are fixed appliances which use dental brackets (adhered to teeth using dental cement/adhesive) archwires, and rubber bands that will use pressure to pull/push your teeth into their proper position. Invisalign, on the other hand, is a non-fixed appliance made up of clear plastic aligners that can be removed throughout the day. The Invisalign trays are swapped every couple of weeks for a different plastic aligner with a slightly different mold of your teeth which will guide your teeth into a more aligned position.
